![]() Online WA Multicultural Communities (OWAMC) Gateway is a joint initiative of the Office of Multicultural Interests and the Ethnic Communities Council of Western Australia. The initiative is aimed at creating a thriving multicultural network on the Internet where ethnic and community organisations across Western Australia can access a range of the latest communications facilities and information services. The Online WA Multicultural Communities portal enables Not For Profit Community Organisations and Ethnic Associations to participate in an extensive and vibrant Internet based network. Incorporated ethnic communities and not for profit community groups/organisations are eligible to apply and acquire their own website through OWAMC Gateway. Each member group will have access to:
A community group could hold a meeting of its entire membership via their web site. Members could participate from their own home, office, school or a public library computer - from anywhere around the State, the entire country or even around the world. Online WA Multicultural Communities Gateway allows your community group to share information and issues with other groups throughout Western Australia and around the world. Ethnic and community groups in regional and remote areas of the State can particularly benefit from this low cost access to the latest communication services available. A computer that is connected to the Internet is all that is required for the project. Websites can be maintained and managed from any computer (including facilities provided through public libraries and telecentres) without the need for installing any software. Online WA Multicultural Communities Gateway also has a facility where communities can encourage members to contribute their “stories” - Community members can write their stories or experiences directly to the website. They are also able to attach a photograph or image with their stories. |
